  • 6 days until my dad and stepmom come to Dakar
  • 11 days until my first Thanksgiving outside of America
  • 65 days I spent in South Africa this summer
  • 172 days I will have spent in Africa in the year 2009 by the time I leave Senegal in December 
  • 73: percentage of the last six months that I have spent on the continent of Africa
  • 0: number of keys my host family has given me to our house, forcing me to ring the doorbell every. single. time i want to enter. and if no one is home, to wait for someone to arrive. 
  • 100,000+ times this has almost driven me absolutely insane 
  • 100,000+ times I have practiced being patient 
  • 800 new French words learned this semester, at least according to the towering stack of flashcards in my room
  • 105 liters of bottled water I have consumed in Senegal, at a rate of 1 1.5 liter bottle per day
  • 70: my preferred SPF for the West African sun
  • 100: percentage I am convinced that this semester/year has been the most bizarre, entertaining, difficult, and useful of my life.
